Overview
The FitMe App offers clothing box services through a mobile app, utilizing phone sensors to ensure an optimal user experience. Many companies now offer clothing boxes, available as subscriptions or one-time purchases. These boxes contain items selected based on customer preferences or stylist consultations. The selection process often involves an online questionnaire, but is this method outdated? Could mobile devices play a role? How do we ensure customers feel completely confident in their styling choices? Recognizing the current lack of user-friendly services, our project focuses on enhancing the user experience for those uncertain about their style, especially young adults aged 20-30 who enjoy online shopping, particularly during lockdown. The aim is to address the current lack of user-friendly services by harnessing mobile device sensors. The app provides convenient clothing advice and allows for easy box ordering from any location.
Discovery
Research
Beginning our research, we wanted to identify who our audience was and what the needs, likes, and frustrations were for those who would ideally interact with our product. To ensure our app meet the needs of our target audience effectively, we conducted research. We began by distributing a detailed questionnaire to a diverse group of individuals. This questionnaire delved into their preferences, habits, and experiences related to clothing shopping and apps. Next, we employed a card sorting technique to analyze the responses. Through this method, we were able to extract precise insights and identify patterns among the data. This process helped us pinpoint our exact target audience: young adults aged 20-30 who are seeking guidance with their style choices and appreciate the convenience of mobile apps for shopping. After gaining a clear understanding of our audience and their preferences, we proceeded to the next phase of research, which involved identifying companies with similar goals to ours and those frequently used by our target audience. We focused on their approach to navigation, visual identity, lookbooks, clothing boxes, personal style consultations, and the use of mobile sensors. We also assessed their overall strengths and weaknesses. Next, we conducted sensor research. In our sensor research, we explored various sensors, focusing on the gyroscope and the prominent camera sensor in smartphones.
Define
Based on our research, we developed user personas to represent our target audience's motivations and needs.
Emily, one of these personas, reflects the most frequent user who will likely need the most assistance and want to use a clothing box multiple times. // Desire seamless online shopping experience. // Require clear visualization of clothing fit. // Aim to minimize returns and exchanges. // Demand fast delivery times. // Detailed information on fabric. // Visual appearance of clothing. // Seek a user-friendly interface for easy navigation. // Seek affordable options. // Want intuitive navigation and browsing. // Desire to relate to models. // Request access to reviews for informed decisions. // Prefer flexibility without immediate subscription commitment. // Want the option to purchase individual items. // Open to exploring new trends and styles. // Wish to provide personal input. // Seek outfit inspiration and personalized suggestions. // Desire to complement and style previously purchased items. // Want visibility into stylists' online profiles.
Concept Development
The Final Concept
Entering our ideation phase, we finalized our concept. The app aims to solve the personal challenge of finding the right size and fit when shopping online, enhancing the user experience. It includes a Body Scan feature using the camera to create a virtual model of the user's body for accurate clothing suggestions and virtual try-ons. The Online Closet feature allows users to connect their online purchases and scan existing clothing in their physical closet, creating a virtual wardrobe for styling options. The app also offers a Lookbook for outfit inspiration and Style Advice based on user body types and event recommendations. In the future, we envision a Bluetooth feature that may connect the app to a smart mirror for virtual fitting sessions at home or in stores, ensuring users always have clothing that fits perfectly.
